Why libre software?

I believe that closed source software is bad for humanity. It has limited human progress by:

  • creating barriers between individuals and solutions
  • duplicating efforts
  • creating bad solutions
  • actively impeding better solutions from appearing
Free, libre and open source software is better for humanity because it:
  • is more often directly created by users, making a better solution
  • is transparent (think electoral systems and privacy)
  • can be more secure (I posit)
  • cultivates a technology-literate userbase (proprietary software is incentivised to hide everything from the user; like unions, free, libre and open source software enables greater awareness)
Software is simply the intellectual design organizing instructions for a computer. There is no need for entrepreneurship. More software should be free, libre and open source, and the technology industry should instead provide services (hosting, compute and asset generation) more than intellectual products. I recommend consulting the Free Software Foundation (FSF) for more information.

RSS Feeds

I use sfeed on my laptop and servers to aggregate and organize my news and follow current events. RSS feeds are better than all forms of news aggregation like Google News, GroundNews or whatever else, because you should have direct control over what and how you see the news. This is a simple thing that a company should not need to get in the middle of.

On mobile, I recommend FeedFlow for print media and AntennaPod for podcasts and videos. For mobile apps, I recommend using F-Droid to install apps.

To check out what I am following, here is my feed list.
